about

I always had a dream of being in the Royal Air Force when I was growing up, but life never quite works out how you plan it to. so, after a few years working for a corporate company, I realised I fancied something a little different, something less corporate and something more people based.

having taken some months out, one October weekend I stumbled upon a furniture shop looking for a part time member of staff.  I applied, got the job and six weeks later I became the store manager.  I loved it and soon realised that retail was something I actually enjoyed and was pretty good at.
for two years I was like a sponge.  I took full advantage of learning as much as possible about market trends, ordering, promoting, pricing, suppliers and more importantly customers.
you see, I had decided a few years earlier that one day I would have my own business. what that business would be I did not know, until I found myself working in retail.
and so, the day came when I set up my very own business selling lovely things that are a little bit different - quirky some say - beautifully made and wherever possible, British.
Whimsical opened in April 2007 on a glorious sunny Spring day and has been going from strength to strength ever since.
why the name...?  why not.  'whimsical - impulsive & playful: fanciful, quaint'.  it sums up what we are all about.
much love, Kelly-Ann
ps - huge thanks to my husband and family for all their help and support.  without them, Whimsical would only be a dream...
